How to deploy Support cards
Support cards are deployed onto the field as Characters, then set face-down in the Support area.
Once a Support card is set, its effect can be activated with Chakra during the Main phase, as long as the printed timing condition is met.
Each effect has a cost that must be paid by flipping the required number of Chakra cards face-down.
The next sections present selected cards from the game to explore the depth of the Support card mechanic.
Quick and Support timing
Does
mean you can play a Support anytime ? Not quite !
Welcome to this first Support card breakdown. We’ll examine cards, effects, and rules one step at a time, starting with the basics and working our way up to interactions and combos.
Choji and Shikamaru are both Support cards, but their effects have different timing windows. Compare the two cards below to see when each one can be played.
Choji Akimichi : Quick gives this Support a broad activation window, as long as its timing and Chakra cost are valid.
Shikamaru Nara : This Support responds specifically during your opponent’s attack and can interrupt that attack.
Kakashi and Support Activated
Can Kakashi stop any move ? Not quite !
This example focuses on Kakashi Hatake and Lightning Blade.
Set Kakashi face-down before your opponent’s turn, then activate him in response to your opponent playing a Support to negate it. The cost is 1 Chakra and 2 Life.
Use the card below to see exactly when Lightning Blade can be used and when it cannot. Would you save Kakashi for a game-changing Support ?
Kakashi Hatake : Lightning Blade negates a Support after it is activated, but only from the correct response window and at a cost of 1 Chakra and 2 Life.
Reading Support card timing
Support cards are defined by their timing windows. Read the printed condition first, then check whether the current turn, attack, or effect gives you permission to activate the card.
Quick is flexible, but it is not unlimited. A response keyword such as During Your Opponent’s Attack or Support Activated is narrower and must be saved for the matching moment.
